In short: Call2Teams is a cloud Microsoft Teams Direct Routing service from Dstny that links an existing SIP trunk or phone system to Teams, with no session border controller or on-site hardware. Call2Teams Trunks brings your SIP numbers into Teams; Call2Teams PBX connects your PBX. Forever Systems supplies both per user, billed monthly, with set-up handled.
What Call2Teams does
Call2Teams is a cloud service that sits between a phone service and Microsoft Teams. It is part of Dstny, a European cloud communications company, and delivers Microsoft Teams Direct Routing as a service.
Direct Routing is Microsoft's method for connecting Teams to a telephone network you choose, rather than buying Microsoft's own calling plans. Done yourself, it normally means buying, certifying and running a session border controller (SBC), plus PowerShell configuration in your Microsoft 365 tenant. Call2Teams provides that layer as a hosted service instead:
- No hardware or software on site: the gateways are run by Call2Teams as a cloud service, hosted in Microsoft Azure
- Keep what you have: your SIP provider, phone numbers, call minutes or PBX stay in place, with no porting and no carrier change
- Native Teams calling: users dial, answer, hold, transfer and forward in the normal Teams desktop, mobile and browser clients
- One web portal: trunks, numbers and users are set up and changed in the Call2Teams portal, without Microsoft admin work for each change
- Emergency calling: Call2Teams' Dynamic Emergency Trunk can pass caller location with emergency calls made from Teams
The Call2Teams products
There are two products for organisations, depending on what you are connecting to Teams:
| Call2Teams Trunks | Call2Teams PBX | |
|---|---|---|
| Dstny's name | Call2Teams for SIP Trunks | Call2Teams for PBX |
| Connects Teams to | Your existing SIP trunk provider | Your existing phone system (PBX) |
| What does the call control | Microsoft Teams Phone | Your PBX |
| Numbers | Assigned from the SIP trunk to Teams users, call queues and auto attendants | Stay on the PBX, one extension per Teams user |
| Typical use | Make Teams your phone system but keep the carrier contract | Add Teams calling while keeping PBX features, call centre tools and desk phones |
| Microsoft licence per user | Teams Phone Standard | Teams Phone Standard |
Dstny also offers Operator Connect and mobile services under the Call2Teams name. Those are aimed at telecoms operators and are not supplied on this site.
How Call2Teams is licensed
Call2Teams is licensed per user: one licence for each Teams user who needs to make and receive external calls.
- Billing: monthly, on your Forever Systems invoice
- Changes: add or remove users as staff join and leave
- Trial: available, so you can test call quality and the user experience before rolling out
- Microsoft licences: Dstny states that both Call2Teams products need a Microsoft Teams Phone Standard licence for each user (included in some Microsoft 365 plans, an add-on to others). Microsoft licences are not sold on this site; Forever Group handles them through Microsoft licensing
- Phone service: your SIP trunk or PBX contract stays with your current provider
Prices depend on the product and number of users, so ask us for a quote. See per-user vs per-device licensing for background.
Buying Call2Teams through Forever Systems
We handle the Teams side and the Call2Teams side together, so you are not left coordinating between Microsoft, Call2Teams and your telephony provider.
- We check what you have: SIP provider and how it connects, or the PBX and its SIP capability, numbers, users, call queues and any call recording or compliance requirements.
- We confirm licences: Call2Teams users and the Microsoft Teams licences each person needs.
- We provision: connect Call2Teams to your Microsoft 365 tenant, link the trunk or PBX, and assign numbers or extensions to users.
- We pilot and roll out: test inbound, outbound and transfers with a small group, then move everyone else.
- We manage the licences: one account, monthly billing and user changes as you need them.
Who Call2Teams suits
Call2Teams suits UK organisations that already live in Microsoft Teams and want it to be where calls happen, but are not ready to change their phone provider or phone system:
- Mid-contract on SIP trunks with numbers and minutes you are happy with
- Running a PBX that does things you need to keep, such as hunt groups, IVR, call recording or contact centre software
- Mixed estates where reception and contact centre staff stay on desk phones while everyone else moves to Teams
- Planning ahead for the PSTN switch-off, where moving to SIP and Teams is part of the plan
If you would rather move to a fully hosted phone system instead, see our sister site's guide to Microsoft Teams Phone and other cloud phone options.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
What is Call2Teams?
Call2Teams is a cloud service from Dstny that connects an existing SIP trunk or PBX to Microsoft Teams using Direct Routing, so users can make and receive external calls in Teams without an on-site session border controller.
Do I need a Teams Phone licence with Call2Teams?
Yes. Dstny states that both Call2Teams Trunks and Call2Teams PBX need a Microsoft Teams Phone Standard licence for each calling user. Some Microsoft 365 plans include it; others need it as an add-on.
Do I have to port my numbers to use Call2Teams?
No. Your numbers stay with your current SIP provider or PBX. Call2Teams maps them into Teams.
How long does Call2Teams take to set up?
There is no hardware to install, so set-up is mostly configuration. The time depends mainly on your trunk or PBX, the number of users and how you want to test before rolling out.
