In short: 1Password is an encrypted password manager for businesses. Forever Systems supplies 1Password Business through 1Password's managed service provider edition: each person with a vault is a seat, billed monthly on actual usage with no minimum, and we handle set-up, single sign-on, provisioning, licence changes and renewals on one account.
What 1Password does
1Password is a password manager built for both people and teams. Each user gets a vault for passwords, passkeys, two-factor codes, secure notes and documents, filled automatically in the browser and in apps. Administrators get a console to decide who can see which shared vaults, enforce sign-in policies and see what is happening across the organisation.
Its security model rests on two secrets: the account password, which 1Password never stores, and a 128-bit Secret Key generated on the user's device. Data is encrypted with both before it leaves the device, so 1Password cannot read what you save. The company publishes a SOC 2 Type 2 report, and accounts can be created in its European region as well as its US and Canadian regions, which matters to UK organisations thinking about where data sits under UK GDPR.
1Password now markets its business password manager as 1Password Enterprise Password Manager, part of a wider access platform that also includes Device Trust, SaaS Manager and Privileged Access for larger enterprises. This site covers the password manager only.
The 1Password product we supply
| Product | What it covers | Licensed by |
|---|---|---|
| 1Password Business | Business password manager with shared vaults, admin console, SSO unlock, SCIM provisioning, Watchtower, Insights, reports and activity log | User (seat) |
We supply 1Password through its managed service provider route, listed as Enterprise Password Manager: MSP Edition. 1Password states that this route provisions 1Password Business plans for each client organisation, so you get the full Business feature set rather than a cut-down version. The Teams Starter Pack, which 1Password sells directly to small teams, is not part of this route, and nor are the separate access products above.

How 1Password is licensed
1Password Business is licensed per user: every person who has a vault counts as a seat, and one seat covers all of that person's devices. Guest accounts, which give someone outside your team access to a single shared vault, are included up to a limit 1Password sets for the plan, so an occasional contractor does not need a full seat.
Through the MSP route, billing is consumption based. Instead of buying a fixed block of licences for the year, you are billed monthly for the seats actually in use, and 1Password states there is no licence minimum. Add a starter and the seat appears on the next bill; remove a leaver and it drops off. That suits organisations whose headcount moves around, and it avoids paying for unused licences until renewal.
The account region (US and rest of world, EU or Canada) is chosen when the account is created, so decide it before you start. Every Business user also gets a complimentary 1Password Families membership for personal use while they remain on the team. Prices depend on seat numbers, so ask us for a quote. For background, read per-user vs per-device licensing and monthly vs annual licences.
Buying 1Password through Forever Systems
- Scope it: we confirm how many people need a vault, which identity provider you use and which vaults need sharing with which teams.
- Quote it: you get a quote for the seats you need, billed monthly on our account alongside your other subscriptions.
- Deploy it: we can connect Unlock with SSO and automated provisioning to your identity provider, such as Microsoft Entra ID or Okta, set team policies, create groups and roll out the apps and browser extensions.
- Run it: joiners, leavers, vault access requests and recovery requests can be handled by our UK team.
Our technicians work inside your account through 1Password's MSP console. 1Password says technicians must periodically re-verify their identity with multi-factor authentication for admin actions, and their actions are recorded in the activity log. 1Password also states it cannot see your vault names, vault items or account password. If you already pay 1Password directly, read switching licence supplier first.
Who 1Password suits
1Password Business suits small and mid-sized UK organisations that want staff to stop reusing passwords, share credentials safely and give IT a clear audit trail. It can help you answer insurer questionnaires and the user access control questions in Cyber Essentials, because you can show who has access to which shared vaults and require two-factor authentication for 1Password itself.
It also suits organisations already invested in single sign-on, because Unlock with SSO lets people open 1Password with the same identity they use for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace. Licensing Microsoft 365 itself? That is handled separately through Microsoft licensing.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
Is 1Password sold per user or per device?
Per user. Each person with a vault is a seat and can use 1Password on all of their devices: computers, phones, tablets and browsers.
Is there a minimum number of 1Password licences?
Not through the MSP edition we use. 1Password bills it on consumption with no licence minimum, so you pay monthly for the seats in use.
Can you move our existing 1Password account to Forever Systems?
Usually yes. 1Password's MSP console can link an existing 1Password client account rather than rebuilding it, so vaults and users stay as they are. We check your plan and billing details before anything changes.
Where is 1Password data stored?
1Password accounts are created in one of three regions: US and rest of world, EU, or Canada. we normally create the account in the EU region; tell us if you need something different. The region is fixed when the account is created.
Does 1Password replace multi-factor authentication?
No. It stores and fills two-factor codes and passkeys, and it can require two-factor sign-in for 1Password itself, but you still need MFA on your key systems. See identity and access tools.
