In short: Island is the company behind the Island Enterprise Browser, a Chromium-based browser with data loss controls, safe browsing, zero trust access to private apps and a built-in password manager. Forever Systems supplies the Enterprise Browser, the Island Extension for Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and add-ons such as Zero Trust and AI, licensed per user.
What Island does
Most work now happens in a browser, but consumer browsers were not built to stop company data leaving SaaS apps or to replace a VPN. Island's answer is an enterprise browser: a Chromium-based browser that looks and feels like Chrome, managed centrally, with security and IT controls built in.
In one product Island covers:
- Last-mile data controls over copy and paste, downloads, printing, screenshots and uploads, set per app and context
- Safe browsing against phishing, malware, session hijacking and malicious extensions
- Private access to internal apps without a VPN, based on identity and device posture
- BYOD and contractor access without MDM or VDI, keeping personal browsing private
- Visibility of work activity with audit logs that can be sent to a SIEM
- Productivity features such as a password manager, an AI assistant and custom branding
The Island products we supply
| Product | What it is | Licensed |
|---|---|---|
| Island Enterprise Browser | The full Chromium-based browser for Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, iPadOS and Android | Per user |
| Island Extension | Island controls inside Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox and other Chromium browsers | Per user |
Both can be extended with per-user add-ons: Zero Trust (private access), AI Advanced, Digital Experience Monitoring (DEX), SaaS API, Anonymizer and Password Manager. Many organisations use the browser for managed staff and the extension where users must keep their existing browser.
Island also sells Island Enterprise AI, for governing AI tools and agents across browsers, endpoints and networks, and Island Enterprise Network, its SASE offering. If either is on your list, ask us and we will scope it separately.
How Island is licensed
Island is licensed per user, not per device, so one licence covers a person using Island on their laptop, tablet and phone. Add-ons are licensed per user on top of the browser or extension, and you only license the add-ons for the people who need them.
We bill Island monthly on your Forever Systems account and confirm any minimums when we quote. Ask us for a quote with your user numbers and the add-ons you are interested in. Our guide to per-user vs per-device licensing explains why per-user licensing often suits browser-based tools.
Deployment and requirements
Island is managed from a cloud console. The browser is deployed through your existing software distribution or MDM, or users install it and sign in with their work identity. It integrates with identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID and Okta, and your identity provider can require Island before granting access to sensitive apps. The extension is pushed through your MDM like any other managed extension. Island says no kernel extensions, proxies or MDM are needed on personal devices.
A sensible rollout starts with one use case, such as contractor access to a single SaaS app or replacing VPN access to one internal system, then widens once policies are proven. Island's privacy indicator and its separation of work and personal browsing help staff accept it on their own devices.
Buying Island through Forever Systems
We help you decide between the browser and the extension, design policies for each app and user group, connect Island to your identity provider and plan the rollout. Licence changes, add-ons and renewals are handled on your Forever Systems account. Contact usFrequently asked questions
What is an enterprise browser?
An enterprise browser is a business browser with security and management built in, so IT can control data movement, block threats and give access to private apps from the browser itself instead of through separate tools.
Is Island based on Chrome?
Island is built on Chromium, the open-source project behind Google Chrome, so websites and most Chrome extensions work as users expect.
Is Island licensed per user or per device?
Per user. One licence covers a person on all the devices where they use Island, and add-ons are also per user.
Can Island replace our VPN?
For many organisations, yes, for access to private applications. The Zero Trust add-on provides Island Private Access: identity-aware access to internal apps based on identity and device posture, without joining users to the network. We check your internal systems with you before you plan to retire a VPN.
