Acronis licences: editions, terms and quotes

Backup, disaster recovery, endpoint security and device management from Acronis, supplied, set up and billed through one Forever Systems account.

Contact us

In short: Acronis licensing through Forever Systems gives UK organisations the Acronis Cyber Platform, formerly Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, on monthly usage-based terms. You license backup per workload or on the storage you consume, add services such as disaster recovery, EDR, XDR, MDR, email security or RMM only where needed, and we handle setup, changes and billing.

What Acronis does

Acronis is a Swiss cyber protection software company, headquartered in Schaffhausen. Its core idea is that backup, security and endpoint management belong in one product rather than three: one agent on each device, one cloud console and one set of policies.

For service providers that product is now called the Acronis Cyber Platform. Acronis's own pages describe it as formerly Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud and say the old name is no longer actively used, so you will still see both names in quotes, renewal paperwork and older documentation. They refer to the same family of services.

Acronis sells two ways: monthly, usage-based licensing through service providers, and annual subscriptions of one to three years for IT departments buying the Acronis Cyber Protect editions directly. Through Forever Systems you get the service provider route, which we set up and manage for you and bill monthly on what you actually use.

The Acronis product line-up

Every service below is managed from the same Acronis console, and most use the same agent, so you can start with backup and switch on more later without reinstalling anything.

How Acronis licensing works

Acronis licensing is built around workloads: a workstation, a server, a virtual machine, a mobile device, or a Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace seat. For backup, service providers can license in two ways:

  • Per workload: a charge for each protected workload, with cloud storage on top where it is not included.
  • Consumption-based: a charge for the backup storage you actually use.

Services can also be bought service by service or as solution-based bundles that combine several services for each workload. Everything supplied through a service provider is usage-based and billed monthly in arrears on actual consumption, so adding or removing a device changes next month's bill rather than starting a new contract.

Some capabilities sit in optional packs. For example, Acronis's Backup pack extends standard backup with continuous data protection, additional application support and one-click recovery. Older quotes may list packs under earlier names such as Advanced Backup, Advanced Security or Advanced Management; we map them to the current offer when you renew.

Buying Acronis through Forever Systems

We set Acronis up as a managed account in your organisation's name and look after it from there.

  1. Scope: we count your workloads, mailboxes and data so you can compare per-workload and consumption-based costs before you commit.
  2. Quote: we recommend the services you need and quote them; ask us for a quote rather than relying on list prices, because the right model depends on your mix of devices and data.
  3. Deploy: we create your account, choose a storage location that meets your data residency needs, deploy agents and build protection plans.
  4. Run: you get one monthly invoice that follows your usage. Adding a laptop, enabling disaster recovery or removing a leaver is a change, not a new contract.

If Microsoft licences are part of the same project, Forever Group covers Microsoft licensing separately. Compare Acronis with other vendors on our vendors A to Z or in backup software.

Which Acronis services do you need?

A few common starting points:

  • Small office with laptops and Microsoft 365: standard protection on each workstation plus Microsoft 365 backup, with Email Security if phishing is a concern.
  • Business running its own servers: server and virtual machine backup with Disaster Recovery so you can run from the cloud if the server room is lost.
  • Organisation preparing for Cyber Essentials or cyber insurance: add RMM for patching, EDR or XDR for detection, and security awareness training.
  • No in-house security team: put Acronis MDR on top of EDR or XDR so analysts watch alerts around the clock.
  • Ageing VMware or on-premises servers: run them as protected virtual machines on Acronis Cyber Frame, with backup and recovery built in.

Frequently asked questions

Is Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud the same as Acronis Cyber Platform?

Yes. Acronis now sells its service provider platform as Acronis Cyber Platform and describes it as formerly Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. It is the same family of services, agent and console, so renewing under the new name does not mean starting again.

Do I have to sign an annual contract for Acronis?

Not usually. Acronis services supplied through service providers are usage-based and billed monthly in arrears, so you pay for what you use each month and can scale up or down. Some products can carry commitment terms, so we confirm any that apply when we quote.

Should I choose per-workload or consumption-based licensing?

Per workload usually suits organisations with many devices and modest data; consumption-based licensing, charged on the storage you use, suits a few servers holding a lot of data. We model both against your estate before setting up your account.

Where are Acronis backups stored?

You choose. Acronis offers Acronis-hosted cloud storage across its global data centre network, geo-redundant copies, partner-hosted storage, supported public clouds such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon S3, and local or network storage. We check the location against your UK data residency requirements before setup.

Do you sell Microsoft licences on this site?

No. Acronis protects Microsoft 365, but the Microsoft subscriptions themselves are handled by Forever Group's Microsoft licensing team.
