In short: Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security, now marketed as Lookout Mobile AI Security, protects iOS, Android and ChromeOS devices from phishing, malicious apps, device compromise and network attacks. Essentials covers those threats with MDM and SIEM integration; Advanced adds app risk analysis, vulnerability management and Secure DNS. Both are licensed per device, month to month or annually.
What Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security is
Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security is Lookout's mobile threat defence and mobile EDR product. Lookout now presents it as Lookout Mobile AI Security, part of a wider platform, but the core is the same: an app on each device, backed by Lookout's cloud analysis of apps, URLs and devices, that detects and blocks mobile threats and reports them to a central console.
It covers four groups of threat:
- Phishing and content: malicious links in SMS, email, messaging apps and websites
- Apps: malware including surveillanceware, ransomware and spyware, and risky sideloaded apps, including apps that leak data
- Devices: jailbreak and root detection, privilege escalation and OS vulnerabilities
- Networks: man-in-the-middle attacks and hostile or unsecured Wi-Fi
When a threat is found, the user sees guidance in the app, and the device's risk level is passed to your MDM, which can restrict access to company apps until the issue is fixed.

Lookout positions Advanced for proactive analysis of the whole mobile fleet, so you can enforce compliance policies: blocking apps that break policy or regulation, seeing which devices are behind on OS versions and security patches, and reporting on vulnerable devices. Lookout describes it as the best fit for regulated industries. For most small and mid-sized organisations, Essentials covers the threats that matter day to day.
How it is licensed
Both editions are licensed per device: each protected phone, tablet or Chromebook needs one licence, company-owned or personal.
| Option | Term |
|---|---|
| Essentials, month to month | Rolling monthly |
| Essentials, annual | 12-month commitment |
| Advanced, month to month | Rolling monthly |
| Advanced, annual | 12-month commitment |
You can move from Essentials to Advanced as your needs grow; we make the change on your account. Because the licence follows the device, keep us informed as phones are replaced or retired so the licensed quantity stays in line with what is actually protected. Trials are available.

Requirements and deployment
Lookout supports iOS, Android and ChromeOS. It can integrate with any MDM, and Lookout lists preset integrations with Microsoft Intune (formerly Microsoft Endpoint Manager), Google Workspace, VMware Workspace ONE, Ivanti, IBM MaaS360, Jamf Pro, SOTI MobiControl, Citrix and BlackBerry. Alerts can also go to a SIEM such as Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel.
A typical rollout with us:
- Connect Lookout to your MDM and agree what happens when a device becomes high risk, for example blocking email and Microsoft 365 until it is fixed.
- Set policies for phishing, risky apps, minimum OS versions and network threats.
- Deploy to IT, then to company devices, then invite BYOD users with a short explanation of what the app does and does not see.
- Send alerts to us, or to your SIEM, and review the risk dashboard monthly.
Who it suits and how we help
Lookout suits organisations where phones and tablets reach email, Microsoft 365, CRM or finance systems: field teams, healthcare and care providers, legal and financial firms, schools and any business with a BYOD policy. Mobile devices that access organisational data are in scope for Cyber Essentials, and Lookout publishes guidance on how its mobile protection supports the scheme, including malware protection and keeping devices on supported, patched OS versions.
We supply the licences on your Forever Systems account, integrate Lookout with your MDM, tune policies and, if you want, monitor the alerts for you. Compare alternatives in mobile security and device management.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
What is the difference between Lookout Essentials and Lookout Advanced?
Essentials protects against phishing, malicious apps, device compromise and network attacks, with web content filtering and MDM and SIEM integration. Advanced adds app reputation and risk analysis, behaviour-based app allow and deny lists, private app analysis, app and OS vulnerability management and Secure DNS.
Is Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security the same as Lookout Mobile AI Security?
Yes, in practice. Lookout now markets its mobile platform as Lookout Mobile AI Security. Lookout Mobile Endpoint Security is the longer-standing name for the same mobile threat defence and mobile EDR capability.
Do I need an MDM to use Lookout?
No, but it helps. Lookout works on unmanaged devices, and with an MDM such as Microsoft Intune it can be deployed with zero-touch activation and its risk score can block compromised devices from company data.
Does Lookout support Android, iOS and Chromebooks?
Yes. Lookout supports iOS, Android and ChromeOS devices.
Can I change edition or term later?
Yes. You can move from Essentials to Advanced, or from month to month to an annual term. Ask us and we will make the change on your account.
