TruGrid licensing

TruGrid makes zero trust remote desktop access and BitLocker management software for Windows. We supply TruGrid SecureRDP, its remote desktop product, per user on one Forever Systems invoice.

In short: TruGrid is a US software company whose main product, TruGrid SecureRDP, lets staff reach Windows desktops and apps without a VPN or open firewall ports. It also makes BitLocker Management and RDS Manager. Forever Systems supplies SecureRDP per user, on monthly or annual terms, with a trial for a pilot group.

What TruGrid does

TruGrid is a US software company that focuses on one problem: letting people work on Windows desktops and applications from anywhere without exposing the network they live on. Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is the simplest way to reach an office PC or a Remote Desktop Services (RDS) server, but an RDP port left open to the internet, or a VPN that drops a remote laptop straight onto the office network, is one of the most common ways attackers get in.

TruGrid's answer is to move the front door into the cloud. Users authenticate with TruGrid first, with multi-factor authentication on by default, and only then is an RDP session brokered to the desktop they are allowed to use. The office firewall needs no inbound ports open at all, because TruGrid's software inside the network only makes outbound connections.

The product we supply is TruGrid SecureRDP. TruGrid's RDS monitoring tool, RDS Manager, is built into the SecureRDP Business plan, and TruGrid also sells a separate BitLocker Management product.

How TruGrid is licensed

TruGrid licenses SecureRDP per user. Each person added to the TruGrid users group in your directory needs a licence to open RDP sessions through TruGrid, and once licensed they can make unlimited connections. TruGrid licences are not concurrent: a licence stays with its user whether or not they are signed in, until that user is taken out of the group, which frees the licence for someone else. BitLocker Management, by contrast, is licensed per managed device.

  • Billing: per user, on your Forever Systems invoice
  • Term: month-to-month or an annual commitment
  • Trial: available so you can test with a pilot group first
  • Changes: add licences as people join; how and when the licence count can be reduced depends on the term you choose, and we explain that before you order

TruGrid's own published plans include a single-user plan, a Business plan with a minimum user count, and site licences for very large estates. We confirm the plan, minimum and term that apply to your organisation when we quote. Prices depend on user numbers and term, so ask us for a quote. Buying TruGrid through Forever Systems

We supply TruGrid as part of the same account you use for your other security and productivity subscriptions, so remote access sits on one invoice with your endpoint protection, email security and backup.

  1. Scoping: we check what people connect to today (office PCs, an RDS farm, hosted desktops) and how they sign in.
  2. Trial: we set up a trial for a few users so you can see the sign-in flow and session performance.
  3. Deployment: we install the TruGrid components inside your network, connect your directory and roll out the user apps.
  4. Lock down: once everyone is on TruGrid, we help you close the RDP ports and retire the VPN that it replaces.
  5. Ongoing: we handle licence changes, renewals and first-line support.

If you are comparing approaches, our secure remote access and SASE and ZTNA category pages list the alternatives we supply.

Who TruGrid suits

TruGrid suits organisations that still rely on Windows desktops or RDS for day-to-day work: accountants and law firms running line-of-business software on an office server, manufacturers with shop-floor PCs, healthcare and care providers, and IT providers hosting desktops for several clients. It is a good fit where the aim is to stop exposing RDP, replace an ageing VPN, or satisfy a cyber insurer that asks whether remote access is protected by MFA.

It is less relevant if your people already work entirely in browser-based cloud apps, where an identity platform or secure browser may be the better control. Browse every vendor we supply on our vendors A to Z.

Frequently asked questions

Is TruGrid a VPN?

No. TruGrid replaces the VPN for remote desktop work. Users authenticate in TruGrid's cloud and are connected to a specific desktop or app, rather than being placed on the office network as a VPN would do.

What products does TruGrid make?

TruGrid makes three products: SecureRDP for remote desktop access, RDS Manager for monitoring Remote Desktop Services hosts (included in the SecureRDP Business plan) and BitLocker Management for disk encryption. We supply SecureRDP, which is licensed per user.

Does TruGrid need firewall changes?

TruGrid does not need any inbound firewall ports opened. The components installed in your network connect outbound to TruGrid, and you can close existing RDP ports once users have moved across.

Can we try TruGrid before buying?

Yes. A trial is available, and we can set it up for a pilot group so you can test sign-in and session performance before rolling it out.
