In short: Egnyte Co-Pilot, renamed Egnyte's AI Assistant in March 2026, is the generative AI assistant built into Egnyte. It answers questions with citations, summarises documents, images, audio and video, drafts content and runs agents over chosen files, all within existing permissions. It is licensed per user, monthly, as an add-on to Egnyte Elite or Ultimate.
What Egnyte Co-Pilot is
Egnyte Co-Pilot is the generative AI assistant inside Egnyte. Egnyte made it generally available in July 2024 for customers on eligible plans, and it works in the Egnyte web interface, the mobile apps and the desktop app. Rather than pasting documents into a public chatbot, staff ask questions of the files already stored in Egnyte, and the answers are grounded in that content with citations back to the source.
In March 2026 Egnyte renamed Copilot to Egnyte's AI Assistant and the Copilot add-on to the AI add-on. Egnyte describes this as a name change only, with no change to features. The licence still appears as Egnyte Co-Pilot on our quotes, so you will see both names.
What Co-Pilot can do
| Capability | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Search and ask | Natural-language questions answered from the files you are allowed to see, with citations |
| Summarise and compare | Summaries and comparisons of documents, images, spreadsheets, audio and video |
| Create content | Drafts such as emails, memos and proposals, and conversions between formats, for example a Word document into a presentation |
| Agents | Agents answer questions over a chosen set of files; they replaced Knowledge Bases in October 2026, and existing Knowledge Bases were converted automatically |
| Agent Mode and connectors | Administrators can connect external tools such as Atlassian, Gmail and Procore so the assistant can work across them |
| Choice of model and sharing | Users can choose between AI models and share conversations with colleagues, who still only see files they can already open |
Egnyte adds features to the assistant regularly, so we check what is live on your domain when we scope a rollout.
Security and permissions
Egnyte states that its AI Assistant inherits your folder permissions and AI Safeguards policies, only works with content the requesting user is authorised to see, and that business files, metadata and prompts are not used to train public or third-party AI models. That matters if you hold client or personal data under UK GDPR: an assistant that respects existing permissions will not surface a confidential HR file to someone who could not open it anyway.
Before switching AI on we recommend a quick review of folder permissions, because AI makes it easier to find content that was technically accessible but never meant to be widely read. Egnyte's Generative AI Policy sets out how customer content is handled if your data protection officer wants the detail.
How Egnyte Co-Pilot is licensed
Co-Pilot is licensed per user, billed monthly, as an add-on to an Egnyte Platform subscription. On our account it is ordered against the Elite or Ultimate edition and is not tied to your Platform user count, so you can start with the teams that handle the most documents, such as bid, legal, project or compliance staff. The IFS edition already includes AI document summaries and question answering in its edition description, so IFS customers should check what they get as standard before adding anything.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Unit | Per user |
| Billing | Monthly |
| Prerequisite | Egnyte Platform Elite or Ultimate |
| Where it works | Egnyte web, mobile and desktop apps |

Who it suits and how we help
Co-Pilot suits firms that live in documents: professional services handling contracts and reports, construction and engineering teams searching specifications and RFIs, and anyone who spends time hunting for the right version of a file. It is not a replacement for Microsoft Copilot, which works across Microsoft 365 data; Egnyte states that it integrates with Microsoft Copilot so users can reach Egnyte content from there too.
We check your Egnyte Platform edition, tidy permissions before launch, license the right users and add more when the pilot proves its worth. Contact us for a quote.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
Is Egnyte Co-Pilot the same as Egnyte AI Assistant?
Yes. In March 2026 Egnyte renamed Copilot to Egnyte's AI Assistant and the Copilot add-on to the AI add-on. Egnyte describes it as a name change only.
Is Egnyte Co-Pilot the same as Microsoft Copilot?
No. Egnyte's assistant works on content stored in Egnyte, while Microsoft Copilot works across Microsoft 365 data. Egnyte states that it integrates with Microsoft Copilot so users can reach Egnyte content there. For Microsoft licences see Microsoft licensing.
Does Egnyte Co-Pilot use my data to train AI models?
Egnyte states that business files, metadata and prompts are not used to train public or third-party AI models, and that answers only draw on content the user is authorised to access.
Do I need to license Co-Pilot for every user?
No. On our account it is licensed per user and is not tied to your Platform user count, so you can start with the teams that will use it most and add users later.
Which Egnyte plans can use Co-Pilot?
On our account the AI add-on is available for the Elite and Ultimate editions. IFS includes AI document summaries and question answering as part of the edition, and we confirm the detail when we quote.
