The Exium Cyber Gateway takes a different approach: it is firewall software that runs on general-purpose hardware or virtual infrastructure, and it is managed from the same console as Exium SASE, so office and remote users share one set of policies.
Because it sits at the edge of the site network, the gateway's IoT and OT security covers devices that cannot run security software of their own, such as printers, cameras and building systems.

Exium licenses the Cyber Gateway per site, with high availability included rather than sold as a second licence. Because it is software, the licence is separate from the hardware or virtual machine it runs on.

Requirements and deployment
Exium states that the Cyber Gateway runs on general-purpose hardware, virtual machines or any public cloud platform, which gives three main routes:
- Virtual machine on your existing hypervisor at the office or data centre.
- Public cloud in Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, to protect cloud networks and workloads.
- On-premises hardware: a general-purpose appliance at the site, sized to your connection and traffic.
