In short: Printix is a cloud print management service from Tungsten Automation that removes the need for print servers. Every plan includes all features with unlimited printers, devices and pages, and it is licensed per active user, monthly or annually. Education, non-profit and Power PDF options are available. What Printix does
Printix replaces on-premises print servers with a cloud service. A small Printix Client on each computer creates print queues and installs drivers automatically, print jobs are processed locally and sent straight to the printer, and administrators manage everything from a web console. There is no print server to patch, back up or scale, and no VPN needed to print in the office.
Printix is owned by Tungsten Automation, the company formerly known as Kofax, which also makes Power PDF. It works with the printers you already have: Printix states that no new certified printers or connectors are needed.
The Printix product
Printix is sold as one product, Printix Cloud Print Management, with every feature in every plan. The main components are:
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| Printix Client | Automates print queues and drivers on Windows, Mac and Chromebook |
| Printix App | Secure print release from a phone, tablet or browser |
| Printix Go | Secure release and scan to email on the touchscreen of supported printers |
| Printix Capture | Scan from supported printers or a phone to email, OneDrive or SharePoint |
| Printix Administrator | Web console for printers, queues, users and reports |
| Cloud printing | Print from home or another site to an office printer through the Printix Cloud |
It also supports Azure Virtual Desktop printing, a Power BI report for print analytics and Windows on Arm.
How Printix is licensed
Printix is licensed per active user, not per printer, and every plan includes every feature with unlimited printers, devices, pages and locations. You can take it on monthly terms, billed on the previous month's active users, or annual terms prepaid for a nominated number of users. Schools and colleges license their staff and faculty, with students included, verified charities and non-profits get a discount, and there is a combined Printix and Power PDF option.
Printix applies a minimum monthly service fee to tenants with fewer than 15 users. The full breakdown of terms, active-user rules and the education option is on our Printix Cloud Print Management page. Prices depend on the option and user count, so ask us for a quote. Moving off a print server
Most organisations come to Printix because a print server is the last piece of on-premises infrastructure they still have to patch, back up and keep running. Printix publishes guidance on print server migration, and the move is usually gradual rather than a big-bang change.
- Identity first: Printix signs users in with Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, Okta or OneLogin, so it fits the directory you already use. Print queues can follow Entra ID or Google groups, and SCIM provisioning keeps users in step.
- Existing printers: Printix states that no new certified printers or print connectors are needed. Printix Go adds touchscreen release on supported Epson, HP, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Lexmark, Ricoh and Xerox devices and works with many existing card readers, although Printix does not sell readers or cards.
- Client roll-out: the Printix Client deploys through Microsoft Intune or an MSI file and then updates itself.
- Parallel running: the old server can stay in place while sites or groups move across, then be retired once everyone prints through Printix.
Print jobs and communication with the Printix Cloud are encrypted with AES-256, and documents waiting for release can be held in your own Azure Blob Storage or Google Cloud Storage.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
Is Printix licensed per user or per printer?
Per user. Every plan includes unlimited printers, devices, pages and locations, and you pay for users who are active in the month.
Who owns Printix?
Printix is owned by Tungsten Automation, formerly Kofax, which also makes Power PDF.
Is there an education licence for Printix?
Yes. Printix education plans are based on the number of administrative staff and faculty, and students are included once the staff subscription is active.
Can I try Printix before buying?
Yes. Printix offers a one-month free trial with all features. We can run it as a pilot on one site before rolling out.
Do I still need a print server with Printix?
No. Printix is serverless: print processing happens on each computer and queues and drivers are managed from the cloud, so you can retire on-premises print servers.
