In short: Symantec is the enterprise security brand of Broadcom. Forever Systems supplies Symantec Email Safeguard.cloud, a cloud email gateway that scans inbound and outbound mail for spam, malware and phishing, including business email compromise, and adds content and image control policies. It is licensed per user, billed monthly, and works in front of Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or your own mail server.
What Symantec does
Symantec has been a security software brand since the 1980s. In 2019 Broadcom bought Symantec's enterprise security business, and Symantec now sits within Broadcom as its enterprise security division. The consumer Norton products were not part of that sale and belong to a different company, so we do not supply them.
Broadcom's Symantec range is aimed at organisations rather than home users. It covers endpoint security, network and web security, data loss prevention and Email Security.cloud, the cloud email service that grew out of MessageLabs, the hosted email filtering business Symantec acquired in 2008. Email Security.cloud is managed through a web portal where administrators set policies, track and trace messages, release quarantined mail and schedule reports.

Email Safeguard.cloud is a package of Email Security.cloud services. It is sold as one product per user, so you do not have to assemble filtering, content rules and image scanning from separate parts.
Broadcom also sells further email services on the same platform: Email Threat Detection and Response (click-time URL protection, Cynic sandboxing and URL and attachment isolation), Policy Based Encryption and Email Fraud Protection for DMARC. How Symantec Email Safeguard.cloud is licensed
- Unit: each user (mailbox) whose mail passes through the service
- Term: monthly, billed on your Forever Systems invoice with your other subscriptions
- Changes: add users as you hire and remove them when people leave; the next invoice follows the count
- One product: anti-spam, anti-malware, content control and image control come as one package rather than as separate modules

Where a gateway like Symantec fits
Email security products work in one of two ways. A secure email gateway sits in front of your mail system: your domain's MX records point to the cloud service, which scans every message before passing it on. An API-based product connects to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and inspects mail inside the mailbox.
Email Safeguard.cloud is a gateway. That has some useful consequences:
- It works with any mail platform that accepts mail over SMTP, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and on-premises Exchange
- Spam and malware are stopped before they reach your mail system at all
- Outbound mail can be scanned too, protecting your domain's reputation
- Content and image policies apply consistently whichever mail platform sits behind it
