What Nitro does
Nitro is a document productivity company best known for Nitro PDF, a full PDF editor. Its range now covers most of the life of a business document:
- Nitro PDF: create, convert, edit, combine, annotate, compare and secure PDFs on Windows, Mac and iOS, with AI tools to summarise, rewrite and extract key information
- Nitro Sign: cloud e-signature for sending documents, collecting signatures and keeping an audit trail
- Nitro Smart Redact: AI that finds personal and sensitive data in documents, including scans and images, so it can be permanently removed before sharing
- Nitro Automate: document automation through APIs, no-code connectors for Microsoft Power Automate and Zapier, and an MCP connection for AI agents; Nitro currently describes it as in early access
Nitro PDF works alongside Microsoft 365 apps and File Explorer, and opens files from SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox and Box. Nitro Sign also works from Word and Outlook and connects to Salesforce.

Two add-on packs top up capacity during the term: Nitro Sign envelopes in packs of 100, and documents for Smart Redact and Automate in packs of 100. Both are for customers already on a qualifying plan, and unused capacity expires at the end of the term.
If you have looked at Nitro's own website you will also see its direct plans, such as Nitro PDF Standard and Plus and Nitro Sign Standard, Plus and Enterprise. We will tell you plainly which option fits; for most organisations buying through us, the choice is between the Pro+ bundle and Sign or Smart Redact on their own.
How Nitro is licensed
Nitro is licensed per user. Each named user needs a licence for the product they use, and licences can be reassigned between people in the web-based Nitro Admin Portal when staff change.
- Term and billing: we confirm the commitment term, billing and renewal date in your quote.
- Allowances: Nitro Sign includes an allowance of envelopes, and only completed envelopes count towards it. Smart Redact and Automate use document credits.
- Top-ups: add envelope or document packs at any point in the term without changing plan.
- Trial: Nitro offers a 14-day free trial, which we can arrange for a pilot group.

Security, compliance and data location
Nitro lists ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA among its certifications, along with participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. For e-signature it lists support for eIDAS and the Swiss ZertES framework, and the US ESIGN Act and UETA. Electronic signatures are legally recognised in the UK under the Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the UK eIDAS Regulations, so Nitro Sign works for most everyday business agreements.
Nitro states that Smart Redact encrypts documents, holds them only temporarily during processing and deletes them once the task is complete, and that customer data is not used to train generative AI. Nitro Automate offers data hosting in the US, EU or Australia.

Can Nitro PDF replace Adobe Acrobat?
For most business users, yes: Nitro PDF covers creation, conversion, editing, OCR, forms, comparison, redaction and certificate signatures, with e-signature through Nitro Sign. We do not supply Adobe licences, so a 14-day Nitro trial is the easiest way to check it covers your workflows before your Acrobat renewal.
Is Nitro licensed per user or per device?

Electronic signatures are legally recognised in the UK, and Nitro Sign records an audit trail of every signing step. Some documents, such as deeds that need witnessing, have extra requirements, so check with your legal adviser for those.
