In short: Perception Point Advanced Browser Security, now FortiMail Browser Security from Fortinet, is a lightweight extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and other browsers. It blocks phishing sites and malicious downloads at the point of click, adds data loss controls and browser governance, includes managed incident response and is licensed per user.
What Advanced Browser Security is
Most work now happens in a browser tab: email, Microsoft 365, CRM, finance systems and AI tools. That makes the browser a prime target for phishing pages that only reveal themselves when a person opens them, and an easy route for sensitive data to leave the organisation.
Advanced Browser Security, which Fortinet now sells as FortiMail Browser Security, adds protection inside the browsers people already use rather than asking them to switch to a new one. A lightweight extension scans pages and downloads in real time and applies your policies. It does not tunnel, proxy or remotely render web traffic, so it works with your existing VPN and network set-up and browsing feels the same.
What is included
Fortinet groups the capabilities into three areas:
| Area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Safe browsing | Image-recognition anti-phishing for fake login pages and logos, dynamic scanning of every download, sandboxing, HTML smuggling and cross-site scripting detection, blocking of risky website categories |
| Safe access and DLP | Clipboard, upload and download controls on sensitive sites, warnings when sensitive data is typed into generative AI tools, personal data detection, watermarking, alerts on unusual mass data exfiltration |
| Browser governance | Discovery and risk analysis of installed extensions, automatic disabling of risky ones, login monitoring, password-reuse alerts, browser inventory and URL filtering |
You can also require the extension as a condition for accessing company web apps through your identity provider, which is useful for contractors on unmanaged devices. As with every Perception Point module, the 24/7 managed incident response service is included.
How it is licensed
Advanced Browser Security is licensed per user, covering the browsers that person uses. It can be bought on its own or in a bundle:
- Email and Browser Security: combines it with Advanced Email Security. Evidence from email, such as the sender and domain, then informs browser detections and vice versa, and a weaponised link found in the browser can be removed from every inbox.
- Email, Browser and Microsoft Collaboration Security: adds Microsoft Collaboration Security for SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams.
Fortinet's published tiers start at 25 users; we confirm minimums and terms when we quote. Prices depend on the bundle and user count, so ask us for a quote.
Requirements and deployment
| Item | Supported |
|---|---|
| Browsers | Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Safari and other Chromium-based browsers |
| Operating systems | Windows, macOS, ChromeOS and Linux, with iOS in preview |
| Deployment | Silent install through Microsoft Intune, Jamf Pro, JumpCloud or Google Workspace, scripts, or self-service email invitations |
| Identity | SAML single sign-on with your identity provider, with policies assigned from user attributes |
The extension can run silently in the background, with configurable updates and protection modes of silent, warn or block. Administrators get role-based access to the cloud console.
Who it suits and how we help
Advanced Browser Security suits organisations that rely on SaaS apps, use contractors or bring-your-own devices, or want guard rails around generative AI without blocking it outright. It is a lighter alternative to a full enterprise browser or web gateway when the main goals are phishing protection and data loss prevention.
We plan the extension roll-out through your device management tool, set initial policies in warn mode, then tighten them once you have seen what your users do. Compare other approaches in secure enterprise browsers and DNS and web filtering, or read about a secure web gateway.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
Do users have to change browser?
No. Advanced Browser Security is an extension for the browsers people already use, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
Does it route traffic through a proxy?
No. The extension inspects activity inside the browser and does not tunnel, proxy or remotely render traffic, so it works alongside your existing VPN and network.
Can it stop staff pasting sensitive data into AI tools?
Yes. It can detect sensitive content being entered into generative AI services and warn or restrict the user, alongside clipboard, upload and download controls.
Can it protect unmanaged devices?
Yes. Contractors and third parties can install it from an email invitation, and you can make the extension a condition of access to company web apps through your identity provider.
