In short: Perception Point Microsoft Collaboration Security scans files and URLs shared through SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams using the same detection layers as its email product. It connects to Microsoft 365 by API, includes 24/7 managed incident response and is licensed per user, with all three Microsoft apps covered by one subscription.
What Microsoft Collaboration Security is
Email gets most of the security attention, but attackers increasingly deliver phishing links and malware through collaboration tools instead. A compromised supplier account can share a malicious file to a SharePoint site, a Teams chat with an external guest can carry a fake login link, and a synced OneDrive folder can spread an infected document across devices.
Microsoft Collaboration Security, part of what Fortinet now calls FortiMail Collaboration Security, applies Perception Point's detection engines to that content. It scans files and links as they are uploaded or shared and stops malicious ones before users interact with them, extending your email security policy to the places people actually collaborate.
What is included
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Apps covered | SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams under one subscription |
| Detection | Threat intelligence, anti-virus signatures, recursive unpacking, a CPU-level sandbox for zero-day exploits and anti-phishing analysis |
| Coverage | Every file and URL scanned dynamically, with no delay to normal working |
| Investigation | Cross-channel incident view alongside email and browser events in one console |
| Remediation | Malicious content removed, with cross-channel remediation where you also license email |
| Managed service | 24/7 incident response team handling incidents, policy tuning and false positives |
Fortinet notes that some SaaS apps, such as Slack and Salesforce, have no built-in content scanning at all. Microsoft 365 does have its own protection, so here the module adds Perception Point's dynamic scanning and managed response on top of it rather than replacing it.
How it is licensed
Collaboration protection is licensed per user, per collaboration application. Microsoft is treated as one application: a single Microsoft Collaboration Security subscription covers SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams together.
It can be licensed on its own, but most organisations combine it with email:
- Email and Microsoft Collaboration Security: adds Advanced Email Security
- Email, Browser and Microsoft Collaboration Security: adds both email and Advanced Browser Security
Fortinet offers equivalent protection for Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, Slack, Salesforce and Zendesk, licensed per user for each app. Fortinet's published tiers start at 25 users. Ask us for a quote and we will confirm minimums and terms.
Deployment and requirements
Deployment is by API: an administrator authorises Perception Point to connect to your Microsoft 365 tenant, and files and links are scanned as they are uploaded or shared, without agents or changes for users. The service runs alongside Microsoft's built-in protection, and incidents appear in the same console as your email and browser events if you license those too.
You need Microsoft 365 licences that include SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams. Those are not supplied on this site; Forever Group's Microsoft licensing team covers them.
Who it suits and how we help
This module suits organisations that share a lot of content with external parties: professional services firms exchanging documents with clients, schools and academy trusts collaborating across sites, charities working with volunteers and suppliers, and anyone with guest access switched on in Teams.
We review how your tenant is set up for external sharing, connect the service and agree with you how incidents should be handled. If you want to tighten sharing permissions as well as scanning content, see Microsoft 365 security. For other options see file sharing and collaboration and email security.

Contact usFrequently asked questions
Which Microsoft apps does it cover?
SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams, all under one Microsoft Collaboration Security subscription.
Is it licensed per app or per user?
Both: it is per user for each collaboration application. Microsoft counts as one application, so one subscription covers SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams.
Does it need an agent on devices?
No. It connects to Microsoft 365 by API, so there is nothing to install on devices and nothing changes for users.
Can it protect Slack or Google Drive too?
Fortinet offers collaboration protection for Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, Slack, Salesforce and Zendesk, each licensed per user. Ask us and we will check availability for your order.
