The entry Workspace edition: professional Gmail, Drive, Docs and Meet for teams of up to 300 users.

Contact us

In short: Google Workspace Business Starter is Google's entry-level business edition: Gmail on your own domain, 30GB of pooled storage per user, Meet for up to 100 participants, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Chat, with Gemini in Gmail and the Gemini app. It is licensed per user, for 1 to 300 users, on a Flexible monthly or Annual plan.

What Business Starter includes

Business Starter gives every user a managed Google account with professional email on your own domain and the full set of Workspace apps: Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites, Keep, Chat and Meet. Administrators manage users, groups and security settings from the Google Admin console.

  • Storage: 30GB per user, pooled across the organisation, shared by Gmail, Drive and Photos
  • Meet: up to 100 participants and meetings of up to 24 hours, without recording
  • Shared drives: available, so team files belong to the organisation rather than to individuals
  • Gemini: Gemini in Gmail and Vids, the Gemini app with standard access, and basic access to Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)
  • Security: 2-Step Verification, group-based policy controls, Google's Advanced Protection Program and fundamental endpoint management
  • Appointment booking: one basic booking page per user

It is a full business service, not a cut-down consumer account, which is why it suits so many small organisations.

What it does not include

The jump to Business Standard is mostly about storage and meetings. Business Starter does not include:

FeatureBusiness StarterBusiness Standard
Storage per user (pooled)30GB2TB
Meet participants100150
Meeting recordings saved to DriveNoYes
Noise cancellation, breakout rooms, polls and Q&ANoYes
eSignature in Docs and PDFsNoYes
Appointment schedulingBasic, one booking pageFull
Gemini inside Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet and ChatNoYes

Neither edition includes Google Vault, Secure LDAP or advanced endpoint management; those start at Business Plus. If 30GB per user looks tight, remember that storage is pooled, so light users leave headroom for heavier ones.

How Business Starter is licensed

Business Starter is licensed per user, and every active account needs a licence. It is available for 1 to 300 users. You choose one of two payment plans:

  • Flexible Plan: monthly, add or remove users at any time and pay only for the users you held that month
  • Annual/Fixed-Term Plan: a one-year commitment at a lower per-user cost, where you can add users at any time but only reduce the count at renewal

Shared inboxes such as info@ or accounts@ rarely need a paid licence; a Google Group or collaborative inbox usually does the job. When someone leaves, a Business Starter Archived User licence keeps their data without a full seat. Prices depend on the plan and quantity: ask us for a quote.

Who Business Starter suits

Business Starter is a good fit for small offices, start-ups, trades and professional practices whose users mainly need email, calendars and shared documents, and who rarely record meetings or store large files. It is also a sensible starting point if you are moving off a mail-only hosting package or a collection of personal Gmail accounts.

It is less suitable if your team works with large video, design or engineering files, needs to record meetings for training or compliance, or has to keep email for a set period. In those cases Business Standard or Business Plus will save you trouble later. Because Google lets you upgrade at any time, starting on Starter and moving up is straightforward.

How we help

We set up Business Starter on your Forever Systems account, verify your domain, configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC so your mail is trusted, and migrate existing mail, contacts and calendars where you need it. We then handle new starters, leavers and upgrades for you.

Google does not back up your data for you in a restorable form, so we usually recommend adding Google Workspace backup. Contact us for a quote.

How Forever Systems supplies your software licences

Forever Systems Ltd supplies business software subscriptions to UK organisations from one account, with one monthly invoice and a UK team who know the products.

  • The right edition first time: we check what you need before you buy, so you are not paying for features you will never use
  • Monthly or annual terms where the vendor offers them, and help timing renewals and commitments
  • Licence changes handled for you: add or remove users, upgrade editions and true-up without starting a new contract
  • Deployment and support from engineers who run these products every day, not just a reseller account
  • Consolidated billing and renewal reminders so nothing lapses unexpectedly

We work with businesses, schools, charities and public sector organisations of all sizes.

Need a licence quote or a second opinion on your renewal?

Tell Forever Systems what you need and we will come back to you by email with options, not a hard sell.

Frequently asked questions

How much storage does Business Starter include?

30GB per user, pooled across the organisation. Ten users share 300GB, so someone with a small mailbox leaves space for a colleague with more files.

Can Business Starter record Google Meet meetings?

No. Saving recordings to Drive starts at Business Standard. Business Starter supports meetings of up to 100 participants without recording.

Does Business Starter include Gemini?

Yes, Gemini in Gmail and Vids, the Gemini app with standard access and basic access to Gemini Notebook. Gemini inside Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet and Chat, and higher usage limits, start at Business Standard.

Can I upgrade from Business Starter later?

Yes. You can upgrade to Business Standard or Business Plus at any time, on either plan. We arrange the change for you.
