Acronis Cyber Platform (formerly Cyber Protect Cloud) licensing

One agent and one console for backup, anti-ransomware and device management, licensed per workload or on storage used and billed monthly through Forever Systems.

In short: Acronis Cyber Platform, formerly Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, combines backup, anti-malware and endpoint management in one agent and cloud console. Backup is licensed per workload or on the storage you consume, and extra services such as disaster recovery, EDR, XDR or RMM are added only where you need them, all billed monthly on usage.

What Acronis Cyber Platform is

Acronis Cyber Platform is the cloud-managed service at the centre of what Acronis sells through service providers. Acronis describes it as formerly Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud and says the old name is no longer actively used. If your current quote, invoice or console still says Cyber Protect Cloud, it is the same family of services.

The platform installs one agent on each device and manages it from a web console hosted by Acronis, so there is no management server to build. From that console you set protection plans that combine backup and anti-malware and, if you add them, services such as disaster recovery, EDR and XDR or RMM. Because backup and security share the agent, recovery becomes part of the security response: EDR can roll back changes made by a specific attack, and a clean backup can be restored from the same console.

What is included

The platform is modular: backup and anti-malware form the base, and each other service is switched on only where you need it.

ServiceWhat it covers
BackupFile, disk and image backup of Windows, macOS and Linux devices and Windows and Linux servers; application-aware backup for Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange and Oracle databases
Backup packContinuous data protection, additional application support and one-click recovery across several machines
Anti-malware and anti-ransomwareProtection against malware and ransomware on the same agent as backup
Disaster RecoveryFailover of servers to the Acronis cloud with runbooks
EDR and XDRDetection, investigation and single-click response
RMMPatching, monitoring, scripting and remote access
Email SecurityPhishing, malware and BEC filtering
DLP and GenAI ProtectionEndpoint data loss prevention and controls on AI tools
Security Awareness TrainingTraining videos and phishing simulation

Each additional service appears as its own usage-based line on the monthly bill, so you pay only for what you switch on.

How it is licensed

Acronis licenses the platform for service providers in two broad ways:

  • Service-based: each service (backup, disaster recovery, EDR, RMM and so on) is licensed separately. Backup can be charged per workload, with cloud storage on top where it is not included, or consumption-based on the storage you use.
  • Solution-based: bundles that combine several services for each workload, so one line covers, for example, security and management together.

Workload types include workstations, servers, virtual machines, mobile devices and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace seats. Per-seat Microsoft 365 backup comes with unlimited Acronis Cloud storage.

Storage can be Acronis-hosted (with optional geo-redundant copies in two separate locations), partner-hosted, a supported public cloud such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon S3, or your own local or network storage. Immutable storage can lock critical backups against change or deletion for a period you set. Through Forever Systems, all of this is billed monthly in arrears on actual usage. Ask us for a quote and we will model the options against your estate.

Requirements and deployment

The agent protects Windows, macOS and Linux devices and Windows and Linux servers. Virtual environments on VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix AHV are supported, and cloud-to-cloud services such as Microsoft 365 backup need no agent at all. Feature availability varies by operating system, so we check coverage for your mix of devices during scoping.

Management is in the Acronis cloud console. Acronis runs a global network of data centres and also supports Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud locations; you choose where backup data is held, and we confirm where the primary and any replicated copies sit against your data residency requirements before go-live.

Who it suits

The platform suits organisations that want backup and endpoint security from one vendor without running backup servers: small and mid-sized businesses, schools, charities and multi-site organisations with a small IT team. It is also a sensible way to replace an ageing on-premises backup product and an expiring antivirus in a single project.

If you need only Microsoft 365 protection, start with Acronis Microsoft 365 Backup or Acronis Protected 365.

How we help

We scope your workloads and data, compare per-workload and consumption-based costs, create your account with storage in a location that meets your requirements, deploy agents and build protection plans with sensible retention and immutability. After go-live we handle licence changes and test restores with you. For a wider view of the market see server and endpoint backup.

  • Monthly or annual terms where the vendor offers them, and help timing renewals and commitments
  • Licence changes handled for you: add or remove users, upgrade editions and true-up without starting a new contract
  • Deployment and support from engineers who run these products every day, not just a reseller account

Frequently asked questions

What happened to Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud?

Acronis now markets it as Acronis Cyber Platform, which its site describes as formerly Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud, and says the old name is no longer actively used. It is the same family of services in the same console, so the change of name is not a reason to reinstall anything.

Is Advanced Backup still a separate pack?

Acronis now calls it the Backup pack. It extends standard backup with continuous data protection, additional application support and one-click recovery, and its availability and billing depend on your licensing model and the services you enable. We include it in your quote only where your servers need it.

Does Acronis include antivirus?

Yes. The platform includes anti-malware and anti-ransomware protection on the same agent as backup. For detection, investigation and response, add Acronis EDR or XDR.

Can I choose between per-workload and storage-based licensing?

Yes. Backup can be licensed per protected workload or consumption-based on the storage you use. Which is cheaper depends on how many devices you have and how much data they hold, so we model both before setting up your account.
