Acronis MDR licensing

Analysts who watch your Acronis EDR or XDR alerts around the clock, contain threats and, at the Advanced level, help remediate and recover.

In short: Acronis MDR is a 24/7 managed detection and response service on top of Acronis EDR or XDR. Analysts monitor alerts, give verdicts and contain threats. MDR Standard covers protection, containment and prioritisation with expert guidance; MDR Advanced adds 24/7 remediation and, with your agreement, attack rollback and recovery from backup.

What Acronis MDR is

Acronis EDR and XDR produce incidents that someone needs to look at, quickly, including at 3am on a Sunday. Most small and mid-sized organisations cannot staff that. Acronis MDR puts a security operations team on your alerts: they monitor 24 hours a day, every day of the year, correlate alerts with threat intelligence, decide whether each is a real threat, and act.

The service is delivered either by Acronis's own security operations team, the Acronis Threat Research Unit (TRU), or by a regional managed security service provider (MSSP) working through Acronis. Both work in the same Acronis console as your backups, so containment and recovery happen in one place.

Standard and Advanced compared

CapabilityMDR StandardMDR Advanced
24/7 monitoring and correlation of alertsYesYes
Protection, containment and prioritisation with expert guidanceYesYes
Monthly reports, incident updates and root cause analysisYesYes
24/7 escalation by phone, email or in the platformYesYes
24/7 remediation by the MDR teamNoYes
Attack rollback and recovery from backup (with your agreement)NoYes

The deciding question is usually who does the hands-on clean-up after a threat is contained. With Standard, the MDR team contains and advises and your own people or we carry out the remediation; with Advanced, the MDR team remediates and can recover affected systems from backup.

How it is licensed

Acronis MDR needs Acronis EDR or XDR on each monitored workload, and through Forever Systems it is billed monthly. Pricing depends on your endpoint count, the service tier, your region and who delivers the service:

Onboarding and requirements

You need Acronis EDR or XDR on each monitored workload. MDR is enabled in the Acronis console, and you name escalation contacts who will be told about serious incidents.

The first two weeks are a learning phase: the MDR team builds a baseline of normal behaviour in your environment and defines exclusions, so that later alerts are meaningful rather than noisy. After that, you receive incident updates as they happen and monthly reports covering what was detected, what was done and any recommendations. Acronis TRU supports English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Japanese; language support from regional MSSPs depends on the provider.

Who it suits

MDR suits organisations without an in-house security team who still need someone to respond out of hours: professional services firms, schools and trusts, manufacturers and charities. It is also a strong answer to cyber insurance and supply-chain questionnaires that ask who monitors your endpoints around the clock. Compare other managed services in EDR, XDR and MDR.

How we help

We set up EDR or XDR first, tune it, then onboard you to MDR and act as your point of contact for incident follow-up and recommendations. Where the MDR team asks for something outside its scope, such as a firewall change, we can do it.

Either Acronis's own Threat Research Unit (TRU), through the Acronis security operations centre, or a regional managed security service provider working with Acronis. We help you choose between them.

Do I need Acronis EDR for MDR?

Yes. Each monitored workload needs Acronis EDR or XDR.

How long does Acronis MDR take to set up?

Enabling it is quick, but expect a two-week learning phase while the team learns what normal looks like in your environment and sets exclusions.
